FAQ
- Is my data uploaded anywhere?
- No. Encoding and decoding run entirely in your browser with the Web Crypto and TextEncoder APIs. Nothing ever leaves your device.
- What is Base64 used for?
- Base64 turns binary data into plain ASCII text so it can travel inside JSON, URLs, emails, and data-URIs. It makes files ~33% larger β it is an encoding, not compression or encryption.
- Why does decoding fail?
- The input may have typos, missing padding (=), or line breaks copied from an email. Re-copy the full string, or try the URL-safe variant toggle if it contains - and _ instead of + and / (not yet supported β convert those characters first).
- What file size can I encode?
- Files up to ~20 MB work smoothly. Larger files still work but the output string gets huge β consider whether you really need it inline.
